A place to stay for a three-week cure

A prescribed French spa cure lasts three weeks, so where you stay matters almost as much as the treatment itself. For all that time you need somewhere you can properly rest, cook your own meals and park without hassle.

Our place is an independent duplex in La Motte-Servolex, next to the home of your hosts, Christelle and Luc, about 20 minutes by car from the spas of both Aix-les-Bains and Challes-les-Eaux. Treatment is more tiring than people expect: here you come back to peace and quiet, and the free Wi-Fi lets you keep in touch with family or get a little work done.

What matters during a cure

  1. A ground-floor bedroom

The ground-floor bedroom, with its double bed, means no stairs after treatment. The mezzanine bedroom, reached by a miller’s ladder, suits a nimble companion.

  2. A real kitchen

Everything you need to cook as you would at home, for three weeks without relying on restaurants.

    Fully equipped
  3. Linen provided

Sheets and towels are included, so there is one less suitcase to pack for three weeks.

Aix-les-Bains or Challes-les-Eaux

Aix-les-Bains, on the eastern shore of Lake Bourget, is one of France’s major spa towns. Its baths are best known for rheumatology (osteoarthritis, joint pain, after-effects of injuries) and for phlebology, the treatment of venous circulation problems.

Challes-les-Eaux, a few kilometres south-east of Chambéry, uses sulphurous water, prescribed in particular for ear, nose, throat and respiratory conditions, and for some gynaecological ones.

Your doctor prescribes the spa town according to your condition. The duplex is the same distance from both, which helps if you have not decided yet, or if each of you is following a different cure.

How a prescribed cure works

  • Eighteen days of treatment over three weeks, usually Monday to Saturday.
  • A doctor’s prescription, which you send to your French health insurance fund (Assurance maladie) to have the cure covered.
  • Partial reimbursement of the treatment. Travel and accommodation costs can also be partly covered, depending on income: check with your insurance fund and your top-up insurer before booking. If you are not covered by the French system, ask the spa directly about self-funded cures.
  • Treatment mostly in the morning, on a schedule set by the spa. Afternoons are free for resting, walking or sightseeing.

Book early: the busiest periods fill up fast, both at the spa and for accommodation.

Close to the spa, or a little further out?

Staying in central Aix-les-Bains lets you walk to the baths, but space and outdoor areas are harder to find there. Accommodation about 20 minutes away, like ours, means driving each morning; in return you get a whole duplex, a garden and a mountain view. Plan on having a car: from our place it is the simplest way to reach your treatments on time.

Making the most of the afternoons

Outside treatment hours, the area is easy to explore at a gentle pace. Stroll along the lakefront in Aix, wander through the old town of Chambéry, about 15 minutes away, or drive up to the Revard viewpoint to look down on the lake. The beach at Le Bourget-du-Lac is also about 15 minutes away: see things to do at Lake Bourget.

To stock the fridge, Tome des Bauges and the local markets offer plenty of variety over three weeks: see Savoie food and markets. Before swimming in our pool during your cure, ask your spa doctor.

Frequently asked questions

All questions
Is it suitable for a spa cure?

Yes: Aix-les-Bains and Challes-les-Eaux are about 20 minutes away by car. The step-free bedroom and the weekly rate suit a three-week cure well. Write to us for a quote.

Is the mezzanine suitable for children?

It is reached by a fairly steep miller’s ladder. It suits adults and children who climb confidently, not toddlers or people with reduced mobility. The ground-floor bedroom is step-free.

Are linen and cleaning included?

Beds are made when you arrive and towels are provided. End-of-stay cleaning costs €50; we just ask you to leave the dishes clean and take the bins out.

Can we come without a car?

Chambéry station is 15 minutes away by taxi or bus. Once here, a car is handier for the mountains; for the lake and the town, the e-bikes are enough.
