The pool under white clouds, with loungers lined up along the hedge

Mid-May is the moment we wait for all winter: the salt-water pool has reopened for the season. The days are getting longer, the garden is turning green again, and the first swims of the year always feel a little like the holidays.

A new season by the water

The pool measures 5 × 11 m. It has a wooden deck, with loungers and a parasol facing the mountains, and it is open every day from 10am to 8pm. At this time of year the Bauges ridges sometimes still hold a few patches of snow, and swimming with them in view is one of our small spring pleasures.

The season normally runs until the end of September, weather permitting. There is no lifeguard, so children must be supervised by an adult.

On the hottest days

When summer sets in, Lake Bourget takes over. The beach at Le Bourget-du-Lac, at the southern tip of the lake, is about 15 minutes from our place. The water is still cool in June and warms up noticeably in July and August. Our ideas for swimming and outings are in our guide to Lake Bourget.

Making the most of it

Until the end of June it is still mid season: €95 a night, with a two-night minimum. In July and August a night costs €120, and stays are at least five nights.

For three nights for two, the “Lake and panorama break” offer (€460, April to October) combines a day on e-bikes along the lake, the boat crossing to Hautecombe Abbey and a basket of local produce. All our offers are on the Offers page.
